What we are doing

La Fabbrica del Sole is based on a long term project, i.e. libertarian municipalism.
It's intention is utopian but it's practice is not.
It is addressed to society as a whole: an anarco-communist project.
The concept of long term planning that has been absent from all debates and programs developed in these last decades, must return to be the focal point of our conflict.
When the intentions are serious, first of all, general important tactical guidelines are established; then we become more specific.
The sun factory, according to Andy Warhol's meaning of 'Factory' or workshop, according to the Renaissance 'Fabrica', or the proletarian pride factory of the workers' movement of the last 150 years, is practically impossible to build. It wants to be so.
We must set an example of society on the scale of a small italian 'Comune', we must make it work and give it our strength, thus setting a great example (the example that has the same contagious and disruptive effect that all examples have).
We bet that the surrounding system will cave in under the weight of its own contradictions, with or with out help, thus leaving its active heirs totally bare and so cresting the need for 'building the sun'.

Open air, uncertainty, Ątopon and dialogue, intuition, moderate and non-violent language, strength and zeal, the optimism of will, studies and talent, are all ingredients necessary for this process, for this Epic. The strategy consists of substituting quantity by using quality; our tactic consist of creating a stable link between the urban area and the country. Internationalism and technology, roots and traditions, freedom and equality, are the eternal meanings of our work. Climbing over dominant language in order to express ourselves in a totally different way is a fundamental tactical step.

From the beginning, we started to:

- Develop and carry out projects for sustainable development that are high in technical, economic and social quality; advanced projects that are always close to highest degree possible of optimisation; projects that are efficient economically and that have a very low social impact; projects that create 'jobs' and not just any type of job. One of this projects is the 'Compost Project'. A bunch of us came together about a year ago with the aim to set up a high quality compost plant, recycling organic waste. The original idea came from the need to take a strong position against the irrational politics which have always marked the management of waste and, more generally, of ecosystem resources. We want to build an example of long term well-living on Earth, of sustainable development, but also of direct interaction with the whole population of Arezzo, the present base of our activity. For these reasons, there will be an extensive informative and educational campaign aimed at the citizens before the installation of the compost plant scheduled for October 2001. It will raise awareness of the need to respect the environment, to consume more wisely, to carefully differentiate waste and more widely, to stimulate interest in the issues of imbalance in the ecosystem. This campaign aims to involve the citizens at all levels; the younger generations, especially, will participate in making the city and green areas their own, by initiatives which will take schools directly to the city park and where a wood will be rebuilt to symbolise well living.

- Intervene, more or less, in the agricultural sector, via a network of compost sales and sales of other products (a direct 'transmission belt' that links the producer to the consumer ); we've begun to interact with agricultural tourism agencies by way of service-providing coops that are capable of solving problems and organising transportation, meanwhile being free from big international companies.

- Allow access to computers and information to all those who do not have access, paying attention, nonetheless, to all the possible contradictions that can arise from it: awareness of society along with all the possible political and cultural control behind it, a greater degree of alienation of direct interpersonal relationships, etc, etc,. This will be done by administering the overhanging campaign directed towards the recycling of computer hardware, meanwhile taking advantage of the quality and philosophy of the LINUX system and of the entire Open Sources movement. In order to obtain all this we've just created the 'Lugar'(Linux User Group Arezzo) knot. - Promote cultural activities and debates across a renewed 'Arte del Convivio' in a free and libertarian space, i.e. an inn, which is the best means possible. This is why we consider Farnetella, a farm in the middle of Chianti: where farming products are transformed into meals that are prepared according to the local farmers' tradition and where it is possible to spend the night.

- Communicate in a productive way, passing through all possibilities and not by using the present established means of communication. Collaborations with Radio Wave (a local alternative Radio), local tv stations, Carta (an alternative Italian newspaper), citizen network, and with some groups of street actions, are a few of the possible routes.

- Develop possible experiences similar to ours
